Supercapacitor Constant-Current and Constant-Power Charging and Discharging Comparison under Equal Boundary Conditions for DC Microgrid Application

This work analyzes and compares the differences in efficiency between supercapacitor constant-current constant-power charging under same boundary conditions, i.e., from initial voltage to final equal times both variants. Similarly, discharging are compared for The study included calculations virtual simulations based on most frequently used equivalent RC model of supercapacitors. As a result, theoretical with confirmed that charging/discharging is more efficient than charging/discharging. results show this difference usually not higher 1%. Practical experiments confirm an almost strategies, but it was difficult validate exactly such small, theoretically calculated differences. Overall, practical point view, two methods can be considered as close, nearly terms efficiency.
